(1) To raise test scores.
First of course, I promise that you will most surely increase your test scores by studying with me, and I assume that is also your main goal in taking this class or purchasing these materials.
(2) To teach mathematics.
As someone who delights in the way mathematics works and who finds great joy in watching others learn to find their way through mathematics, showing you test-taking tricks alone, while helpful, would be unsatisfying to me and unfair to you. If you don't feel your math skills are strong, I will ease your discomfort and if you already enjoy and feel competent doing math, I will still show you new ways of looking at things.
(3) To teach test-taking tricks.
Well, "tricks" sounds frivolous perhaps so we can call them "techniques," but knowing about test design and the psychology of test-makers will ease your way.
(4) To become a better instructor.
Every time I have ever taught a class, I tell my students that if they have learned as much in the course as I have, they should get an "A"on their final exam. We may learn different things, but if teaching wasn't always intriguing and challenging to me, I would quickly find a different profession.
(5) To get to know my students.
It is my interactions with my students that I most treasure. Life is short, and you are a crucial part of my journey.
I wish you well in all your endeavors!
