HOW TO DEFEAT TEST ANXIETY

First, remember that taking tests is fun and something to look forward to.  However, in case you don’t quite buy this, here are some suggestions:

Eat a good breakfast.  Don’t load up on sugar; you’ll “crash” in the middle of a test section.

Get a good night’s sleep before the test.  I recommend watching an old science fiction movie the night before.  Something like “The Blob” with Steve McQueen.

If you find yourself rereading and rereading a passage or getting bogged down, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and grin for 20 seconds

Remember, you can repeat the test at another date.  A good score on a certain date may be important, but don’t place so much importance on success that you start to panic.  Life would be dull if we succeeded at everything we did the first time.  And you may do better than you expect!!!

The best way to prepare for the test is to practice, practice, practice.  Remember the rule that applies to training puppies:  ten minutes a day is more effective than two hours on Sunday.

Also practice taking the test under conditions that simulate the actual test conditions.  Time yourself, bubble in responses, and try numerous sections at a sitting.

Really do try to have fun when you practice and when you take the test!!!
